Youth and Children Who Witness Abuse
Group and individual counselling for children and youth (3-18) who have been exposed to violence in their homes.
We offer group and individual counselling and a place where children and youth can talk about their experiences and learn that it is not their fault.The program includes: individual and group counselling for children and youth, individual and group parenting/caregiver support, school-based groups and presentations designed to prevent violence and presentations to the community on the effects of exposure to domestic violence
The Youth and Children Who Witness Abuse counsellors can help children and youth to:
- Express feelings in a healthy way & understand that they are not responsible for the violence
- Learn that they are not alone; other children have experienced similar situations
- Develop a safety plan & identify support people and networks
- Recognize their strengths and increase their self-confidence
- Identify cycles of abuse and violence
- Explore the myths about violence in the media
- Improve social skills and school performance
- Develop conflict resolution skills
